When perfecting a makeup look on a client its not just about the makeup, its about the time it takes to do it.
You see, when you see a makeup look on a website or social media, and think wow! I love that, it maybe a natural or full on glam look you visualise but you do have to take into consideration the amount of time it takes to get the makeup to look that way.
When you think the majority of us take between 11 and 35 minutes to get ready completely, think about how long it actually takes you to do your makeup
Its all in the prep, preparation is key, especially if you want the best results, you may think its a faff or just a waste of time but it really does make the difference. You would not paint your walls without preparing it first, so why treat your face any different.?
When meeting a client its important to discuss their skin regime, what they do to prepare their face, but mostly what will suit their skin type.
Let's say a client has combination skin and suffers greatly with shiny 'T' zone, its my job to advise on the best products and longevity of products.
WEDDING MAKEUP - THE TRIAL
On average a makeup trial depending on how many at the trial and the look can take anything from a couple of hours to over 4 hours. Very often an appointment time will be given so you are given some sort of guideline of how long it will take.
It really isn't about just putting the makeup on, its about getting to know you, taking a personal interest in you and your wedding, and what your desired dream look is.
We love talking products and plans for the wedding day, we have an immense range of products for every client.
We want you to feel special on your trial and excited for your special day look.
The trial will always take longer than that of the wedding day makeup, solely because we are designing together your makeup look, we are strengthening colours, or taking them away,we are looking and advising on skincare and foundations and on what best to use for your skin and what will suit your skin type, we also send you a little list of waterproof mascaras or any products we've used in case you want to add to your makeup bag on the day, or you could have us around all day for top ups?
It is beneficial to have your makeup trial in daylight as that is generally when you are getting married and you can see how fresh and gorgeous your makeup looks, and how long it lasts after your trial.
We like to take our time, we make time for you, we dont want you to feel rushed , as there is then plenty of time to ask questions , change or adapt your makeup, any skin sensitivities can be dealt with and patch tests completed
So as you can see its not a 5 minute job.
I've literally lost count of how many times someone has asked how long for the trial and how long on the wedding day for makeup ?
It is no problem being asked these questions as i would rather you ask questions, having a makeup trial is something you have probably never done before, so dont worry we like questions.
The last bit of the trial is sorting the timings out, yes the timings for the wedding day, you dont want us rocking up at the wrong time, the wrong address or starting late its just a disaster.
Furthermore, if everyone has a time, then there is less panic.
We send out our wedding day itinerary's specially for the Bride so she can look at it, explain to her bridal party the plans for the day and know what the timings are... it helps us as much as you.

Wedding makeup on the day always goes better than the trial, we know your face, we have recorded everything, so you dont have to.
We also know timings...sometimes and only sometimes do we get an Itinerary back from the bride who is ultra organised and has it down to the last minute who has to be in what chair and when.
In fact by being organised things run much more smoothly ...
The makeup on the wedding day isn't your general run of the mill makeup, even if you wear very little or alot of makeup, we know how to keep your makeup intact, how it will survive the dance floor, the hugging, the kissing and the tears...
Little tips on waterproof products especially mascara are a must - and OUR handkerchief top tip is a huge hit with all our Brides.
So when you are planning a wedding, plan in the time for your makeup too, its not a quick fix, its possibly one of the most important things you will have on your wedding day, dont forget
your face will be on the photographs for ever, so let the professional be the artist for you
